Pick up a pearled glass pearl, a simple thing and yet fascinating in its transparency and its stripes. Stop to consider the millennial tradition from which an object so widespread and daily, born beyond fashions and epochs.

Now multiply its size, imagine it suspended in the air, illuminated by an inner glow that is reflected on its notched surface, generating a screen of luminous games. From this inspiration is born Plass.

Plass, whose name originates from the synthesis of "plastic" and "glass", interprets the millenarian tradition of glassmaking, in the light of a material and a contemporary process: transparent polycarbonate molded in rotational.

About Plass of Foscarini

Thanks to this technology, still not used in a very wide scale in the lighting sector, the finishes are not impersonal and cold but, on the contrary, they are characterized by slight irregularities, evidenced by the light source, as in the artisanal glass .

The incisions in the beads reflect the light coming from the environment, in the lamp Plass instead serve to refract the luminosity of the internal light bulbs, in a double overturn of perspectives: from small to large, from outside to inside.

The colors chosen for the diffuser, blue green and gray, are inspired by Murano glass and Venetian handicrafts. In addition to evoking an atmosphere and an emotion, the color contributes to the definition of the shape of the lamp, evidencing the thickness of the incisions on its surfaces.

Plass recalls a pearl of frosted glass illuminated by the rays of the sun, but in it the light comes from the interior and not from the outside, reflected in the incisions that cross the surface. The unique effect it provokes is even more immediate and practical in the new version Plass media by volume to the spaces of medium size.

Luca Nichetto designer Plass


Luca Nichetto was born in Venice in 1976. In 1998 he graduated in industrial design. He started working with the glass manufacturer of Salviati. He later became a product designer and consultant for the lighting company Foscarini.

In 2011 he moved to Stockholm to create his second studio (the first in Venice) where he is currently living and working.

The works of Luca Nichetto have been exposed in much of Europe and have been the subject of retrospectives in cities such as Venice, London, Paris and Stockholm.

His work is directed to the creation of luminarias, objects of furniture and accessories.
